Will it significantly improve Logic or general multitasking performance? Will it be better for the ultra-wide? My biggest question mark is if I should go the eGPU route with my current use case. I plan on ordering an ultra-wide monitor, likely the LG 49WL95C-W since I don't like the aggressive curve on the Samsungs. I currently hit the CPU limit pretty regularly with my projects and have to freeze a bunch of tracks to keep going. My night job is doing music production with Logic as my DAW of choice and running an SSL interface for vocal/guitar tracking. Small amounts of very basic frontend dev work.
I do quite a bit of wireframing and UI work via Sketch and Figma as well. I'm a Product Manager at a tech startup so my day-to-day work is primarily browser-based - a bunch of chrome tabs, spreadsheets, Slack, Zeplin, Asana, etc. However, it's finally started to slow and impact my workflow (plus a bunch of monitor disconnect issues.). After swapping in an SSD and maxing ram to 16gb, I have to say it's been an excellent workhouse for years. I'd love to get some recommendations for setup/mods/accessories based on my workflows.įYI, I'm coming from a late 2012 Mini 2.6GHz i7 that I've used for the last 5 years. I had been considering the 2020 iMac but figured this was a decent enough price to give the new Mini a try 🙂.
